Fair Trade Group Nepal

Fair Trade Group Nepal, FTG Nepal is one of the strongest country networks of fair trade organizations recognized in Nepal that promotes livelihood of thousands of women and youth artisans by ensuring fair trade principles and practices. Registered in 1996, the member-based organisation advocates for fair trade friendly provisions in the existing government policies and guidelines. FTG Nepal provides development opportunities for marginalized producer groups by providing them fair prices, working environment and access to markets for their products. FTG Nepal promotes fair trade friendly livelihood, entrepreneurship and marketing for more than 300 producers of handicraft and agro and non-agro products.

Freed Kamalari Development Forum (FKDF)

The mission of Freed Kamalari Development Forum is to empower freed Kamalari children and girls in educational, economic, social and cultural sectors for raising their living status by means of their own participation and leadership; and establish a civilized society by reducing gender based violence and discrimination.

Indreni Rural Development Center

Based in Kapilvastu district of Nepal’s Lower Terrai region, Indreni Rural Development Center, IRDC works with an overall goal to help women and youth avail their social, economic and cultural rights with unity and dignity. Their programme ‘initiatives for social and economic empowerment of marginalized communities’ supports and collaborates with local governments to review and adopt laws and policies in line with the rights-based perspectives. IRDC also successfully trains women and youth on skill and business promotion through their classes on Livelihood and Entrepreneurship Development.

Jagaran Media Center

Jagaran Media Center, JMC formed by a group of Dalit (formerly known as untouchables) journalists entered into a partnership with IM in 2019 to work on media-based advocacy in Nepal. The non-profit media house advocates elimination of caste-based discrimination in the public domain by sensitising public through their own radio stations called ‘Radio Jagaran’. JMC is more extensively seen as a change maker and a connector between the government, civil societies and media for protecting the rights of the scheduled caste women and youth.

Justice and Rights Institute (JuRI)

Established in 2011, IM’s partner Justice and Rights Institute, JuRI was formed by group of advocates working to create a fair, just and inclusive democratic Nepali society where everyone can enjoy their human rights – civil, economic, social, political and cultural. Strategic litigation is one of the key approaches and tools used by JuRI to strengthen and protect human rights. JuRI’s five-year programme focuses on carrying out evidence-based advocacy at national and local levels. Using tools like Public Interest Litigation, engagement with international human rights mechanisms, monitoring and documentation, JuRI reaches out to the women, girls and youth from marginalized and excluded communities.

Society for Environment Education Development

Formed in 2001, Society for Environment Education Development, SEED envisions a society without poverty and improving the quality of life of the poor and excluded people. SEED is successfully working toward promoting quality education, women rights, governance and accountability, and is actively advocating against child marriage and gender based violence. SEED entered into a partnership with IM in 2016 to work on social inclusion and educational programmes.

Social Welfare Action Nepal

IM collaborated with Society Welfare Action Nepal, SWAN in 2019 to promote social, economic and cultural rights among women and excluded groups, keeping special focus on the welfare of the landless, domestic and bonded labourers in Dang district of southern Nepal. SWAN is a strong voice prominently advocating for the child rights and abolition of bonded girl child labourers rescuing as many as 1,848 girls from landlords in Dang district. The organisation also successfully leads a movement on free bonded labour and land rights for marginalised people within indigenous Tharu community.

Siddhartha Social Development Center

IM partnered with Siddhartha Social Development Centre, SSDC in 2015 working on social inclusion and educational programmes in southern Nepal’s Kapilvastu district. It addresses multi-thematic issues of social and economic empowerment, right to education, governance and accountability, peace and justice. The organization is recognized more for its advocacy, social mobilization and educational efforts. One of the main successes of SSDC is that the indigenous Natuwa tribe have been recognized as an official group by the Nepalese government, which means that they now have ID documents and have access to health care.
