The situation in the northern Gaza Strip can only be described as a profound humanitarian crisis characterized by high death tolls, mass displacement, and serious deficiencies in basic services and infrastructure.

The total death toll in Gaza is now somewhere between 25,000 and 30,000. Up to 1.7 million people, which corresponds to more than 75% of Gaza’s population, have been forced to flee their homes, according to a report from UNRWA. Many have been displaced multiple times, further exacerbating their situation.

For those remaining in the northern Gaza Strip, living conditions are extremely difficult. In addition to the constant fear of attacks and violence, residents struggle with a lack of basic necessities such as food, fuel, and medicine.

Resumed communication

In this inferno, our partner, PMRS, operates with mobile teams across the Gaza Strip, providing emergency care, primary care, and psychological support. Communication with the teams in northern Gaza had been cut off over the past week, but we have finally received reports that their work is progressing. Despite the difficulties and lack of medicines and medical supplies, the teams continue to offer their services to the injured and patients in shelters, refuge centers, and refugee camps.

Only three field hospitals remaining

Currently, there are no fully functioning regular hospitals in Gaza. Most have been destroyed in various ways and lack the ability to operate, and the few that remain are overloaded by up to 200%. The only available medical facilities are three field hospitals. PMRS’s mobile teams, where healthcare personnel navigate through the rubble on foot, are vital in the truest sense of the word.
